Kleanly Support

Help for Kleanly on the Mac App Store and the direct download.

Kleanly pauses your keyboard and trackpad for a moment so you can clean your Mac without typing or clicking by accident. It can also cover the screen with a dark layer that makes dust and smudges easy to see.

Getting started

  1. Open Kleanly. Its control appears beside the MacBook notch, or as a small tab at the top of the screen on Macs without a notch.
  2. macOS asks you to allow Kleanly under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. Turn Kleanly on there. If Kleanly isn't listed, click + and choose Kleanly from Applications.
  3. Hover over the Kleanly control and click the play button.

Finishing a cleaning session

Double-tap the trackpad or double-click the mouse anywhere. You can also click the stop button in the Kleanly control. Input works again right away.

Common questions

Why does Kleanly need Accessibility permission?
macOS requires it for any app that holds back keyboard and trackpad input. Kleanly only does this during a session you start, and it never records, stores, or sends what you type, click, or see. See the privacy policy.

Kleanly is turned on in Accessibility but cleaning won't start.
Select Kleanly in the Accessibility list, remove it with the - button, then add it again with +. This can be needed after an update.

Where are the settings?
Kleanly has no Dock icon. Open Kleanly again from Applications or Spotlight, or click the gear in the Kleanly control.

How do I quit Kleanly?
Open Settings and click Quit Kleanly on the General page, or press Command-Q while Settings is open.
